Are Women In Glasses Sexier?

When I was younger, women (or girls) who wore glasses were seemingly stereotyped. And not in a flattering way. The girls, and actually even the guys, in school were deemed "geeks," or "nerds," and the women were basically known as "frumpy."

While my good vision held on through grade school, and into junior high school, eventually I needed glasses. It was one of the most traumatic days of my life. I only needed them for distances, but that included seeing the blackboard! Luckily, my parents agreed that contact lenses would be best for me, but I also had to get a pair of glasses for two reasons. First, the contacts would not be ready that soon. And second, there would be times when contacts might not be appropriate. Well, I picked out a horrendous pair of glasses, and was supposed to wear them in class until my contacts were ready. I did not. Who knows how much damage I did to my eyes those weeks.

I never thought about it much after that time. I wore my contacts, and occasionally would use my glasses for driving at night, or when lounging around the house. However, something happened a year ago, and it happened (surprise) while I was having sex. My "main squeeze" at the time (and yes, the same one I wrote about two weeks ago, that accompanied me to the movie Mulholland Drive for you "regular" readers) and I had just returned from a party, and went to his apartment. It was late, and my eyes were very dry so I wore my glasses. I know he had seen me in them before, but on this night, he snapped. He became very affectionate, and when we fell onto the bed, I took my glasses off. He stopped. He asked me to keep them on. At first I thought he had some kind of fetish, but I went along with it. To be honest, seeing him that clearly while having sex did little extra for me! :) But as we made love, he was different. I wasn't sure if he thought he was "cheating" on me because I looked different, or he really liked me better in glasses. I never wore them again in that type of situation. He often asked "how come you never wear your glasses?," and I would always tell him I don't like to wear them. He never persisted, but it got to be slightly irritating.

Flash to the summer of 2001. Being a huge Kevin Smith fan (and having turned many friends on to his movies), we were all anxious to see Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. It was a funny movie, but all my male friends wanted to talk about with the movie was Shannon Elizabeth (the hot exchange student in American Pie) wearing glasses, and how hot she looked in them! I quickly remembered my previous optical encounter, and of course headed to the closest LensCrafters to buy new glasses (kidding). In reality, a month later (hey, I'm slow), I decided to wear my "nice" glasses into my office to see what kind of reaction I got. Indeed, I became the flavor of the day. Even when I wore short skirts (which I do fairly regularly in the summer), I rarely got this much attention.

With my mind made up, I went to my friend, the Internet, to do some research. And as always, turned to my new friends that I met through www.sexyads.com to gauge their feelings. 

I found little research on the Internet. I found a limited poll at www.misterpoll.com where 89% of the men answered yes to the question "are women with glasses sexy?" There were just over 130 respondents, and while the numbers were staggering, the question was a bit simplistic. I then found an article at www.newsnote.bbc.co.uk which explained how after the UK Prime Minister Tony Blair started wearing his glasses in public, he began appearing on the covers of women's magazines. 

As far as my www.sexyads.com and Yahoo friends, the results were mixed, though there was a definite lean in the direction of fetishes! :) The majority of guys I chatted with felt glasses could enhance a woman's appearance sexually, depending on the glasses, and the woman! Several noted the added feeling of intelligence, maturity, and authority. Others said it stemmed back to their younger days, when it seems every school boy has a crush on his or her teacher at some time, and teacher's were often pictured wearing glasses (notwithstanding, you might recall the Van Halen video for the song Hot For Teacher). Yet others felt glasses just got in the way, and that if a gal looked good with glasses, she would look that much better without them!

On the topic of fetishes, beyond the teacher/student fantasy (I forgot about that one last week in my sexual fantasies column), I heard from guys who at one time or another have enjoyed ejaculating on their partner's glasses, and have enjoyed watching their mates chew on the arms of their glasses (apparently in a phallic way).
